In your own words, how would you describe the story of American Nightmare? It is the story of three sisters - one who was murdered (by a nurse) and two living. They, like most people, have a social circle of friends that they interact with on a regular bassis. On Halloween night, the murdered sister's killer stalks, and tries to kill, the living sisters and their friends by their greatest fears, which were all confessed on a "call in" radio show from a local coffee shop. It all takes place on Halloween night and is centered around a coffee shop and the call-in radio show. Once the killer knows the people's fears, she follows threm throughout the night and tries to pick them off one by one . . . and in the end . . . secret. Please tell us about your character, Bruce? He is a childhood friend of the other people in the cast. On the outside, he is a rebellious, crude, fun-loving, Dionysion tupe - a tough, blue collar, "alpha male." But underneath, secretly or surprisingly, he is considerate and possesses a caring heart, especially regarding the welfare of his friends and family. He also has an agressive nature and a violent side - a fiery temper that he keeps subdued and caged by his joking nature. He is kinda in a way like the character Stanleyin "A Streetcar Named Desire." What challenges did you face in playing
Bruce, if any? Staying awake and in a good mood. Shooting at night and still trying to work during the day was long and tedious. Did you do any special preparing for your role of Bruce? I drank a lot of coffee and took a lot of herbal stimulants to stay awake during the shooting. I also watched Lifetime and The Family Channel to work on the sensitive side of the character - just kidding. I did watch Braveheart and other movies to get an idea of what to do or how to die. What did you bring to the role of Bruce? I brought myself to the role of Bruce. Whether that is good or bad will be determined through the finished project. How would you define the relationship between Bruce and the group of friends? I think he has good, deep relationship with Tony. They were childhood friends. His wife, Cynthia, has a deeper relationship with him than the others because of her husband. She has heard stories. He has a superficial relationship with the rest of the cast of "friend." They know him as Bruce - the "alpha male" - they have seen his caring side but they have also seen his other sides. They really don't know or believe his sincerity displayed at times; not enough that people will come to him to talk about life or thier problems. How does Bruce view Jane Toppan? Jane is a girl - enough said. No, it is a typical game of cat and mouse. He chases because she rejects him at the party, plus she is the only "new blood" around in the movie . . . a target.
Really didn't do anything to get myself into character, or to prepare for the audition, or to land the role. If I portayed what Jon intended when he wrote the script . . . the role really wasn't a stretch for me. In fact, I think the character of Bruce kinda is me. What was your favorite aspect of filming, American Nightmare? It was very organized and a good experience. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. |
